Frilly and Funkie - A Touch of Gold

Hi guys!

Yep I'm just about still here, our finish line for the build is close and once we're passed all major hurdles, I'll post some pics so you can see what has been keeping me so busy!!

Over at Frilly and Funkie it's my turn to host the challenge (but with great help from Jenny - massive thank you my lovely!), and I've picked the theme:

Hope this one gets the ol' mojo cells going :)

I've done a tag for this using loads of gorgeous products from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Lindy's EP was the key to the butterflies and some Old Silver, which has a light gold tone to it more than silver to the ivy... some champagne coloured pearls....

Just want to take this opportunity to say thank you everyone for staying by me whilst this build is going on, I love reading your comments and I appreciate each and every one. xx

Anyway hope you like, I'm now off to research light fittings ready for the electrician today.

Frilly and Funkie - Stitch in 'time'

Happy Wednesday! :)

Hope the world is bright and sunny where you are!

Time for our next challenge over at Frilly and Funkie and this time our hostess is the lovely Sue. Here is the theme she set:

"What I love to do is incorporate sewing into projects, this could be real of faux, it adds an extra dimension to your artwork. So, for this challenge we want to see stitching somewhere on your projects, real or faux will do! BUT I would also like to see a timepiece too!"

I adore adding sewing too, it's such fun and adds some authenticity to a piece. Sadly, right now my sewing machine is buried beneath a pile of 'stuff'. I say stuff as honestly it is just mess and I can't pick anything out anymore lol :) So I had to go with faux sewing...

I used the template from Cosmo Cricket to make the gift bag out of 12 x 12 black card. Then layered Tim Holtz Wallflower paper, distressing the edges and 'stitching' the edges.

I used some Tim Holtz Ephemera to add extra detail on and in the pockets, also using faux stitching where possible.

I added some Tim Holtz embellishment pieces. However, I can't get to them all and THE ONE piece (Tim Holtz Clocks) that is vital to this challenge I can't get to as a massive cooker is standing between me and a load of boxes with my arty stuff in :( - (so sorry Sue)

This is my art room and the boxes are behind this beast! Although I LOVE this beast :)

Sooo ready to have my house back. :( Tripped over a loaf of bread this morning (tuesday), yep... bread!! Of all the things that has gone from making this bearable to almost tipping me over the edge.. bread!

Anyway gotta dash again, and I promised I've not abandoned you. I will get round as soon as I can. I'm trying not to spend much time at home but it means I'm often without internet access.

Will catch up soon,
Georgie xx

Mixed Media World - Gorgeous Textures

Happy Sunday Afternoon Everyone,

Cannot believe we're in August already, I'm sure time is whizzing by faster than it should be! Over at Mixed Media World this month, our lovely leader Ingrid has set our theme:

"Use various media and materials to create yummy textures on your projects"

Sponsor: Old Vintage shop
Prize: 3 Image from Etsy

For this challenge I was very inspired by Prima's Product Pick (mood board below), with the fresh colours, and my recent purchase of some garden fable products, I really wanted to play!

I decided to pour in all sorts of texture, from paint and modelling paste to the soft look and feel of cheesecloth. Prima's new Garden Fable line, is so fresh and summery, I'm just in love with the line right now!

I used modelling paste with Splash Micro Beads from Finnabair to create a few of these butterflies through a stencil.

And that bow... isn't it gorgeous...! Huge thank you to a hugely talented dear team mate and friend, Samra from Paper Talk With Samra  who sent me some bows for my birthday when I was being absolutely clueless on how to make them. I've been holding on to them, (staring, drooling... the occasional stroking.. cough cough.. ahem.. :) I'm not weird -promise!!)  ;)  not wanting to use them up as they're soooo pretty, but this teal/turquoise one was just a match made in heaven for this tag. Thank you Samra!! :)

Thick paint splattered creates a lovely bumpy surface :), beads and sequins add some sparkle and shine.

The heart lock and key was covered with a little gel medium and sprinkled with glitter and beads, the flowers are such an easy options if you ever struggle with texture!

So fancy playing along with us at Mixed Media World? :) We love seeing what fantabulous creations you come up with!!

Don't for get to stop by my other teamies and check out their fabulous creations!

Anything But Cute - Making Magic

Hiya Everyone!

Firstly, huge apologies if I've not been round, I was intending to at the weekend, but things are picking up pace here, some good, some bad, but we'll keep plodding on! I will take some time - hopefully soonish - to catch up. For now, I'm keeping on top of commenting and creative duties ;), whilst problem solving the design aspect of a new kitchen lol

Secondly, HALLOOO :) to me latest followers, thanks for joining me along my arty journey!

So, now, down to business, this month over at Anything But Cute, I had the honour of choosing our challenge theme, and drum roll please :), it is:

"Most of us are drawn to the magic of fairy tales and fantasy. The colours are often hypnotic and your mind is free to explore outside the limits of reality. For this challenge, I would like you to create a magical mixed media project strongly inspired by the moodboard. Be inspired by the theme, the colours, the textures or all three. Lets bring a little magic back! '

I just adore greens and golds/oranges together, with hints of browns, and isn't there just something so magical about dappled light? :) I'm so fortunate in that where I live I am minutes from woods, with rivers and ponds and all sorts of amazing wildlife. Although I was extremely inspired by I wanted to inject some magic... Fairytales and fantasy, and when mixed with art... wow, you can do so much!

For this challenge, I knew I wanted to create a mixed media canvas, with a fairytale theme:

Those of you in England maybe aware of those adverts that appear around the beginning of Autumn with the fairies in the woods. It's that kind of magical feeling that gave me the inspiration for this piece.

Lots of mixed media pieces, but the biggest key to this for creating light and dark was using a mix of white gesso and black gesso.

I used some lovely chips from Dusty Attic

Resin roses coated lightly in gesso, and the metal butterfly, which was given to me awhile a go by a crafty friend.

The fairy is another Dusty Attic chipboard piece. I sprayed her with Lindy's first and then used their embossing powders, creating an uneven surface for the dappled look. I then edged her wings with Viva Inka Gold copper in places so it looked like the light was coming through showing some magical transparency to them.

Used Galleria Micro Glass Bead Gel, then hit with the copper paint to highlight.

Some camouflaged birds on mini branches. The little branches, I thought, just extended and closed the surrounding edge, to help with the effect of looking into a magical world.

Ahhh, stencils....! :) Love stencils. All in all I used four stencils with modelling paste to before painting to create the background. All from The Crafters Workshop.

Some gems to add that extra sparkle :)

The flourish chippies were perfect for adding depth, and I made sure to actually paint the sides black too.

More stencilling along the sides.

...and some more :)

Just a different view....

... and another :)

Hope you enjoyed todays post and the challenge I've set for you!

Much hugs,
Georgie xx
